Mathshield hopes to be a project which provides a convenient graphical interface for the powerful command line computer algebra system Maxima. The project is now in its design stages. The features which the project hopes to support are MathML based display of mathematica content, a functional button interface to many of the more common mathematical functions, and inline plot display. Other possible features would be interfacing with other mathematical packages such as Octave, syntax highlighting when useful, and supporting the syntax for other mathematical programs such as Mathematica.

Early planning. I'm currently looking around to try and determine what parts of this sucker exist in some form already, and which parts need to be created, as well as trying to find enough docs to teach myself how to create them.
